An interesting exhibition at Artroomers Artspace finishes in one week!

Basso Continuo is the title of the latest exhibition at Artroomers Artspace. This exhibition will continue until the end of February during business hours.

Basso Continuo proudly showcases 3 Double Basses handmade by Lachlan Tumeth.

Also on display are some magnificent miniscule specialist hand planes used in the instrument making process that Lachlan practises.

Large posters comprising a montage of photographs show the various procedures, precision and attention to details required to produce these exquisite instruments.  These photographs document the handmade techniques as used in the Italian system of construction and give us a behind-the-scenes look into the life and working environment of a fine stringed instrument maker (luthier).

The following photo shows the difference in scale between the bridge of a double bass and that of a violin!

Meanwhile, during December at artroomers artspace, you can view works that have been created by Robyn Kinsela, as parts of a series. Working in a series frees up the artist giving head space and time to concentrate on, and develop, a train of thought (and in Robyn’s case, many trains of thought) which eventually leads to a new body of work. Anyway, come and have a look for yourself. exhibition view #1 exhibition view #2 exhibition view #3Further, Robyn’s work can be seen as an exhibition based on her West of Wilcannia paintings and works on paper, at The Red Tree Café, Station Street Bowral. This work will be on view until the end of January.

But, there’s more…. Mark Chance, owner/chef extraordinaire at the Primary Espresso Bowral, 2/23 Boolwey Street Bowral, permanently has Robyn’s work on the walls. This is different work, but work that relates to each other within the space, and Robyn takes liberty to show some more edgy paintings and works on paper for the amusement and/or enjoyment of customers.

Life Drawings and Drawings of Life by Robyn Kinsela – November 1 – 30

The Southern Highlands November Arts Trail exhibition at Artroomers Artspace shows a loose but informative narrative between observation sketches, quick response sketches, simplification of imagery and abstracted drawings and paintings derived from the figure and, simultaneously, from the landscape. All work is for sale. Unframed works are also on display, and available.

Local Art News for November

It’s that time again – The Southern Highlands Arts Festival will take place over the month of November.

Hardcopy brochures can be picked up at Artroomers among other places, and you can also view information at http://www.shaf.com.au.

As part of the Arts Festival, Artroomers Artspace will be showing life drawings with their progression, by interpretation, into finished artworks. These works, by Robyn Kinsela, will include male and female figure studies, sketches and explorations using various techniques and materials demonstrating the development of finished drawings and paintings.

This exhibition starts Friday 1 November and continues until Saturday 30 November.     A full catalogue of all the exhibited works will be posted next week.

25% off Sennelier Gouache while stocks last

Gouache (pronounced “gwarsh”) is an opaque water based and water soluble paint that is very high in pigment intensity and dries flat and matt. Although ideal for painting colour “sketches” that can be referred to back in the studio, it is also often the medium for finished works. Sometimes gouache is used as one uses watercolour where added water makes the paint transparent.

sennelier gouache

“Acrylic gouache” is really a flat, matt acrylic paint, not gouache. Once acrylic gouache dries, it cannot be reconstituted due to the polymers of acrylic paint, unlike gouache, which needs to be framed in order to protect it from unwanted moisture.

Sennelier is a highly regarded brand of artist quality art materials made in France and promises to give you pleasure when you use their products.

During month of October, Artroomers is selling Sennelier Gouache for 25% off.
