The NEW Artspace at Artroomers in Mittagong will showcase the techniques of different artists who use a particular art medium. The medium will change each month.
The first media-specific exhibition at Artroomers Artspace was launched in August with the theme Oil Paint. It featured the works of five local artists, Judy Benjamin, Robyn Kinsela, Phil Turton, Caroline Traill and Kim Shannon and displays the vastly different techniques used by each artist.
The second exhibition from 4 – 29 September, features the watercolour works of Tony Ameneiro, Ann Carney, Gillian Hook, Ruth Kemp, Robyn Kinsela and Ron Stannard.
October will showcase the charcoal works of Phil Alldis, Anne Judell, Robyn Kinsela and Eliza Overduin.
Artroomers’ owners, Stuart Kinsela and former TAFE art teacher Robyn Kinsela, initially wanted to showcase art in the Southern Highlands’ November Art Trail. The idea grew and very soon a special space was built so that ongoing exhibitions could be facilitated.
While enjoying getting back to her own art, Robyn is still keen to teach people about aspects of art. And what better place than an art and framing shop?
“I’m intrigued about how different artists use the same medium in different ways. This is a new idea which has had a great response already and anyone can come and have a look and compare the works of the months’ artists.”
The Artroomers Artspace is open weekdays 9am – 5pm, and on Saturdays 9.30 – 12.30. Other times are by appointment.
